Pure Energy
Shibari Performance

The curiosity of learning. When things become anew, Gentle & Compassionate. Pure energy is the moment in which our bodies realign and revive the energetic body back to its former state.

Kinbakuartistmiki returns to Bound Studio for two back to back performances with Athena and Xin. The performance will highlight two unique perspectives, followed by a Q&A with the artists. You won't want to miss this extremely rare performance. Following this performance will be a rope jam to close out the night.

Kinbakuartistmiki

Miki's style practices a silent and observant form. It can be described as the practice of improvisation, movement and communication with five senses.
"My style of ropework communicates through the ropes, observes and responds in the moment with the tying partner and environment" I began studying Shibari / Kinbaku in 2016 and have studied regularly in Kinbaku & Shibari from Murasaki Haruan (Yukimura ryu), Kasumi Hourai (Kasumi and Naka style), Tenma Haru, Akane, and Iroha Suzuki in Japan. I have had guidance and inspiration from Shodo Master Setsuhi Shiraishi. In addition, Setsuhi and Miki have developed the “Suminawa” experience together.
I have been working with the Japanese arts since 2008, hosting workshops and performances for Butoh, Shakuhachi, Ikebana, Kodo, and many other performing arts which has had a big influence on my style. Miki has performed in Kinbaku and has hosted workshops throughout the east coast including NY, PA, MD, DC, VA, FL and more.

Athena

Athena has been bottoming for Shibari and Kinbaku for over 2 years. Finding rope has been enlightening and freeing. Athena was interested in Shibari for many years. At first she was attracted to its aesthetics and beauty. Then, when finally being able to be tied, falling in love with the feeling of the ropes on the body and the connection that it brings between two people. Athena now assists Kinbakuartistmiki with his classes teaching Shibari and Kinbaku in Baltimore and the surrounding areas. She has also collaborated in Shibari photoshoots and participated in Kinbaku performances & demonstrations.

Xin

A multidisciplinary artist whose art practice explores sex, gender and politics through humor. She transforms the ready-made objects, and plays with her body to make objects, performance and social intervention pieces. "My work is my reaction to my surroundings. I encounter myself in the World." Xin has performed with Kinbakuartistmiki since 2019 holding performances in Baltimore and NYC.
